I would give you A Look, but then you would pointedly ask how often I've read "Those Who Hunt The Night", and then things would just devolve.
Oh, man, I do love Hambly, and that's one of my favourites. Although my edition is called
Immortal Blood,
and, sadly, has THE single most inappropriate (textually substantiated, but completely misleading) image on the front-cover. Anyone who saw the front cover and thought "Excellent, that'll be the book for me!" would then be utterly disappointed by the book's contents, while many of those inclined to love the hell out of the book would be unlikely to pick it up based on the title and cover art combo. I'll read anything Hambly writes, so it was a no-brainer at the time, but, wow, her UK publishers did her a disservice with that one. (Although the sequel had a more appropriate front cover, and didn't get renamed.) I'm sure you've read
Bride of the Rat God?
It's terribly charming also. (And of course I love her fantasy books - although I was traumatised by the sequels to
Dragonsbane,
and haven't trusted her since that happened. Jesus. And I thought I
wanted
sequels to that book. Wow, was I wrong.)
No, I think it's totally fitting Barb. Or maybe we're rotten in the same way, but in any case, I'm completely with you. And her take on WH is pretty much the most epic misread I've ever seen since Pat Robertson picked up a Bible, so...
Bride of the Rat God
rocks.
Oh yeah. And from the stories I hear from my Mom really true to the Hollywood of that era. (Secondhand stories she heard. At 87, she is not old enough to have experienced that version of Hollywood first hand. )
If anyone ever writes the Meyer fic, may I contribute some possible final lines.
"He rose from the corpse, shaking off the worst of the gore. Drops of blood shimmered in the moonlight like red glitter."

Dan Stevens reading Great Ex. And Greg Wise reading Tess of the D'Urbervilles
Well, damn. If I was living in the UK, that would totally have sold me their product.
Good job, my people! Good job!
Jilli! I posted in Natter, but I had my 13 year old (or is she 14 now?) former neighbor over and your book on my table spurred a cool conversation and now I need to get her a copy!
