EW gave it a middling review, saying it was about as good as your standard thriller but not as great as you'd expect from Del Toro's involvement.

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.
There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."
Has anyone read this book that Guilermo Del Toro co-wrote?
My editor sent me a copy yesterday! I haven't started reading it yet.
Jilli, let me know what you think. I am intrigued so far, but I have only gotten through the first section which seems to be leading up to the action.
On the subject of vampire books, Claudia Grey's Evernight finally cropped up in Bangkok a few weeks ago. It's a YA vampire book, but it's not trying to be Twilight. Or at least - it should appeal to the Harry Potter and Twilight crowd, insh'allah, but it has a much more likeable protagonist than Meyer's sparklefest. Reminded me a little of the Bluebloods books, but I liked this one rather more, I think.
I'll pass that onto my sister's stepdaughter, Fay--she's a 15-y.o. who loved Twilight and Harry Potter and is always looking for new books. She also loved the Blueblood books.
I already passed the info along to my friend with two Twilight loving nieces.
Oh, dear heavens - can you imagine being mid-shag and having Neil Gaiman wander innocently into your hotel room?
...I just - I mean, I suppose there are people who would be thrilled, and come on the spot, but I think for the most part it would be death by mortification.
Oh sweet jaysus. That's just... there aren't words, really.
I know, right?
I think that might be even more surreal than SA's experience of having Neil turn up for sushi when she was meeting Roz K for lunch one day. Possibly. Or not.
You'd wonder if you'd hit your head mid-shag and passed out, wouldn't you? And whether there would be, I don't know, tapdancing penguins or something showing up next.
Well, we're assuming they recognized him. And I dunno... my faculties aren't that sharp, necessarily mid-shag. They probably just thought there was some wacko perv wandering into their room.
But still... recognized or not, that's just not what you expect to have happen.
