I've got 19 boxes completely stuffed and very heavy (thank God for professional movers!), and that's after I weeded out ten boxes since last fall.
I think I counted about 25 today now that everything is packed up, and I weeded stuff out too.
There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

sj, did you ever mail those books to me? Not like I don't know you're completely crazed with moving, but I just wanted to let you know they never arrived if you did.
Also, 25 book boxes! Kindred spirits, babe. I forget how many we had last time, but it was right up there. After culling, as well.
slackers. when we move to Ca from CT it was a hundred boxes of books. It was about 50 on our last move.
howdy, Lola.
Oh wow, sj, never mind -- I just saw in Bitches tomorrow is the big day! Rest up, babe.
AmyLiz, sj's computer died but she says to tell you that she has not sent the books yet. (She says to also tell you that she's a bad person but I simply don't agree with that.) She will get them out to you soon, though.
She is *so* not a bad person. *I* feel bad for asking because I didn't realize moving day was tomorrow.
But I also couldn't help myself because, new books! It's a sickness.
Actually it was my stepfather's computer that I seem to have killed. The vertical hold on the monitor died while I was playing on it last night. I have all of my book boxes in one room in front of me right now and it is closer to 40 (although a few of these boxes may be magazines and other stuff).
Forty?! I feel much better now--when I told my mom about the 19 boxes I ended up with, she tried to talk me into doing more weeding. I explained that, at this point, that would be equivalent to asking me to cut my veins open. I pointed out that I got rid of 1/3 of my books already--what more does she want?
I should have made the comparison to her collection of fabric--she'd understand that.

Glad I could help. I probably have more weeding to do since many of them are still in boxes from the last move due to my lack of shelf space. When I worked at the evil bookstore we would get 40% off on one day a couple weeks before Christmas, and I lack all impulse control when it comes to book buying anyway.
ETA: It might also make you feel better to learn that this does not include cookbooks. In fact a large portion of them are books about books. I am a sick girl.

Oh, does that sound familiar! I worked for Waldenbooks (who were not evil, except for their insistance on selling that damn Preferred Readers card) for eight years, and they and Borders (where my discount worked as well) had that 40% off day twice a year, which drained my checking account. Also, I had no resistance to interesting bargain books, which I seemed to find on a weekly basis.
Since I quit working there, I've only bought about 25 books for myself in 3 1/2 years. I'm still working on the to-be-read bookshelf, though.

Three of my 19 boxes are cookbooks, and I don't even cook that much! I also have a collection of books about books and words, including a few history of the English language books and my favorites, Bill Bryson's Mother Tongue and Made in America.
