Also, as there are other books out there besides "Harry Potter," I'm almost done with Michael Chabon's "The Yiddish Police Union." Which is a lovely, weird little book.

Took me a while to get into it, what with the Jewish names and Yiddish diction. At first pass, I thought it was a bit impenetrable. Then I got used to it, and now it's hard to put down. Once it takes off, it just goes.

I don't know what's wrong with me, as I'll be in Carlisle Freaking PA (home to the Carlisle Bike Show this weekend) from Friday afternoon on, rather than taking Mal to a bookstore/Potter party.
Maybe I'll compromise and get my motorcycle helmet painted with the Ravenclaw crest.
(Um, I'm not really going for the bike thing)
OK, other books: I just read The Sharing Knife. Took about 2 seconds. Bujold goes down easy, I have to say. I was sort of skimming though, because I wanted to quickly get thru all the blah blah relationship crap and back to killing malices.
Oh well.

This was my experience if Chabon's Mysteries of Pittsburgh and The Adventures of Cavalier and Clay. The latter, in audio, was riveting.

Huh, I'm rather proud of myself. Salon has a review of HP7. The first page is kinda spoilerly (and there are warnings), but they make a serious warning about the second page which will discuss everything including the last page. I decided not to.
Of course, I may cave like a souffle in an earthquake before I actually get the book, but for now I don't need to know.

I'm totally avoiding all reviews until I read the damn book tomorrow!!
We still had people putting the book on reserve last night, and when we had our 8:00 pm cutoff (dictated by the home office), the complaints were loud and vociferous by people who came in/called up afterwards. We're still handing out copies to people who come tomorrow without a reserve, it's just that they're going to have to wait a bit until the reserved people get theirs first.
My shift tonight is 10 pm-2:30 am, and I'm hoping we manage to get through the line by the end of it. We'll have all the registers hopping at midnight and someone bringing up boxes of books for us to just take out, scan the barcode printed out next to the registers, process the transaction, and move on to the next person.
I've got my broomstick end done (lots of raffia tied together and stiffened up with some cardboard shoved down the center and Elmer's Glue drizzled around to keep it in place, I hope). I'm heading over to Target at lunch to pick up some headbands to finagle a way to keep it on my head until midnight at least.
