Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

If I want to become a cloud of bats, does each bat need a separate vaccination?

I have the Space Opera audiobook in my library but it is not marked "Finished" and I don't remember it distinctly from the e-book, so did I not listen to it?

If there's enough back matter, some books (e and audio) won't automatically show as Read at the end of the book (because there's credits or promo materials or what have you).

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

It’s showing 9 h to go, like I barely started it. I know I intended to listen to it, and I ingested the story somehow, but maybe only with my eyes? Weird. I’ll get to it eventually

"I yam what I yam and that's all what I yam," -- Popeye

the Flavia Albia mystery series

I didn't know about this. I liked the Marcus Didius Falco series, so I will give it a try.

I like it better, honestly. 9 books already out too. Davis is very regular in her publishing output! So far they all appear to be included in my Audible membership, which is nice (all the Falco books were except the penultimate one, I’m curious why that’s the case)

I just (literally a few minutes ago) figured out that at the beginning of this series Albia and her love interest are approximately the same ages as Helena and Falco were at the end of his series, which is an interesting choice for Next Generation. And that makes Helena only 12 years older than Albia, which I am having some trouble with. I guess I could have figured that out back in The Jupiter Myth if I had been paying attention, but I did not.

not your mom's socks.

Cat Valente’s audiobooks are pure joy. Space Opera included. I’m so excited for the sequel. And for Charlie Jane.

(Apologies if my posts are too positive - it’s been a really rough year and I’m so glad to be happy about anything. )

I think if bufffistas are allowed to be extra positive about anything it’s books.

Y’all speaking of gushing—I almost never like contemporary lesbian romances. They’re just so often bad. Or unrealistic. And usually not hot.

But I just devoured one and it was great! Satisfaction Guaranteed, by Karelia Stetz-Waters. Two thumbs up.

In the end it's only ever been one step, and then the next.

I have started Victoria Goddard's The Hands of The Emperor and am really enjoying it - someone described it as "The Goblin Emperor from Csevet's POV, set in the South Pacific" and they aren't far off.

Mm, I like The Hands of the Emperor so much. Pops into my head as something to contemplate pretty often

ETA: ooh, novella prequel I haven’t read! Petty Treasons
