Mal: Does.. um.. does this seem kind of tight? Kaylee: Shows off your backside.

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Good news is that there's going to be a sequel:

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Hooray!

Because books.

Nora always makes me feel a little warmer and more content. I've been tempted to reread her original (?) witch trilogy, the one with Dance Upon the Air.

Oh a goblin emperor sequel is so great, I didn’t know! Yay!

Now tagless for your comfort.

Help, I need manga recommendations for my 15 year old niece, and I don’t read it. Apparently that’s all she’ll read right now.

I'm glad Hec responded. I'd also like to add: Takane & Hana, Demon Prince of Momochi House, Shuriken & Pleats (2 volumes), Ne Ne Ne (1 volume), Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba, Haikyu!!, Prince Freya, Ice Knight, and Yona of the Dawn.

Definitely check thriftbooks.com for gently used copies--it's a great site for aftermarket manga.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

I'm a little bummed that it's centered on a secondary character and we're unlikely to spend a lot of time with Maia and them, but I have a lot of faith in the author and am excited to be going back to the world

not your mom's socks.

Volans I swear I told you about Murderbot. Maybe while we were making you read Machina? If not? I have failed you.

Whoever said the Southern Book Club was not what they signed up for, I co-sign.

So far, The Space Between Worlds is still among my favorites this year. And Midnight Bargain. I finally read Tea Obrecht’s inland and liked it a lot. Now working on Shuggie Bain.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

If anyone has an Audible membership, one of the Audible Originals (stuff that Audible produced that often comes free with membership) currently available is a 45-hour collection of Austen novels, narrated by Claire Foy, Florence Pugh, Billie Piper, and Emma Thompson.

... this might get me through the winter.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Cash, got any more recs for my Grandmother? This is what I gave you before: 93yr old, reads any biography she can get her hands on. I can't hope to choose a bio that she hasn't read so I tend to go for historical fiction or things like Radium Girls or Devil in the White City. She doesn't like non-linear or complicated time-lines.

You suggested Book of Ages by Jill Lepore so I sent that and Hidden in Plain View : A Secret Story of Quilts and the Underground Railroad and she was very pleased.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

I'm glad to hear about The Goblin Emperor sequel, but I'm disappointed it's not focusing on Maia.

And I know it's just me, but I really can't deal with audiobooks - they just ... irritate ... me beyond endurance.
