Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I would guess selkies are more in control of which form they take than were-seals but I am unfamiliar with Matt's series so I could be very wrong. I am enjoying the thought of were-seals baying at the full moon, though.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

paranormal gay romance novel about a helicopter pilot and a were-seal

God I love romance microgenres.

There's a short story in "Otherwere: Stories of Transformation" about a guy who turns into a were-guppy. "Going too far" by Doris Egan. Fun.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

That doesn't sound like much fun ... no insult to guppies intended. I did see a cartoon recently and it shows a full moon in the background and a pack of wolves surrounding a baby which is saying something along the lines of "yes, I was bitten by a baby".

Then there's Chuck Tingle ....

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

What's the difference between a were-seal and a selkie?

Selkies manifest a seal skin that must be kept somewhere safe when they're in human form. Folklore says that a human can keep a selkie against their will if they steal the skin and refuse to give it back.

So I'd assume that were-seals just transform with the lunar cycle? "It's a full moon, Imma gonna go swim and eat fish"?

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Unless you are romantically entangled with a were-orca that seems like a completely valid lifestyle.

And if you are, it's an intriguing base for a plot

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

I once, many years ago, read a book about a man who was one manifestation of a Polynesian shark deity ... he'd romance a woman and then either drown or eat her (possibly both). There was NOT a happy ending to that.

If you are bitten by a selkie, do you transform into a creature whose sealskin can only be stolen when the moon is full?
