I'm pretty sure the Curse of Chalion is the first of her books in the World of the Five Gods.
Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.
There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."
Yes, first published anyway
I slightly prefer The Paladin of Souls, which does follow The Curse of Chalion. The third in the series - which I believe is supposed to take place well before that time - I don't like much. But it's Bujold, so ....
I just reread all the Chalion novels, including The Hallowed Hunt, which isn't set in Chalion, and didn't do as well. I admit that the characters in HH aren't as lovable, although I would happily read a book about Learned Hallana's adventures, and maybe another one about Prince Jokol and his icebear Fafa.
Toddson, GMTA.
Thank you, Toddson, Paladin of Souls was the title I couldn't think of
Agreed on Hallowed Hunt - although I liked it better when I re-read it in the last couple of years than I remember liking it the first time. Would love more Learned Hallana!
I really like the I guess subgenre of fantasy that's about made up religions, and the 5 gods are an excellent example. Other favorites that spring to mind are The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms (I think the series has a different name but I forget what it is) and Raven Tower. Stuff like that is catnip for me
Cashmere, thank you SO MUCH for mentioning this book.
I wanted more people to squee with about it! The audiobook is to DIE for. The narrator is so hilarious and wonderful with the characters. I've listened to it multiple times. (I own it in print, ebook and audio).
Ooh, might have to listen!
For some reason, I just can't deal with audiobooks. I like e-books fine, but the audio just doesn't work for me.
I have to match the right audiobook with the right other activity (if I try to just listen to an audiobook and do nothing else I will drift off to sleep which is not terrible except I will not actually hear the story) - right now I've got the Complete Works of Sherlock Holmes as narrated by Stephen Fry as my book to listen to while I'm working (if I get caught up in something I'm doing and miss a little bit it doesn't frustrate me too much and Stephen Fry's voice is generally quite soothing) and the Murderbot Diaries to listen to while I do household chores (I don't know, it helps motivate me somehow?). I looooooove audiobooks while I'm driving but I haven't been doing much of that lately...
