Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

Really loving it so far.

That makes me very happy. I still haven't wathced the blinking movie despite the fact I ordered it from amazon and have had it for at least a month. I'm hoping it's a lot better than The Illusionist.

Because books.

I actually liked The Illusionist better. But they're very different movies.

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

I just finished The Invention of Hugo Cabret. Damn, that was a cool book . It looks giant and think and slightly intimidating - esp since it is a kid's book. But there are lots of drawings - and the story gets more and more intricate as it goes along. I love that the reason for all the drawings is perfectly clear by the end of the book.

HAs anyone read MArk Anderson's Shakespeare by Another Name? It looks really interesting; his website has podcasts on it, and they are pretty interesting. And it's gotten some excellent reviews.

Good for McCarthy. It's an amazing book, if in no way a cheerful one.

I really need to set my Tivo for the Oprah episode where they talk about it, because I'm having a hard time imagining their responses. It's really not much of a redemptive story.
