Fred: It's the pictures in my mind that are getting me. It's like being stuck in a really bad movie with those Clockwork Orange clampy things on my eyeballs. Wesley: Why imagine? Reality's disturbing enough.

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

Which is why, although I know better, I still say "muncipal" in my head when I read municipal. You know, muncipal, like principal.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Ha! I have not read Jane Eyre, though. Mostly I think - how is that a first name?

Why isn't everyone pelting me with JOY, dammit? - Zenkitty

Seems like 2 separate questions to me. Reading the name doesn't give you the pronunciation. Watching Four Weddings and a Funeral on the other hand...

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

I only got it when I read a romance novel where there female protagonist 's nickname was Sinjun

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

I learned it from a bad '60's era sitcom called O.K.Crackerby. Crackerby was played by Burl Ives and his assistant was named St.John Quincy, and the running joke was the assistant constantly correcting the pronunciation of his name by pretty much everyone.

Edited to note that it was effective, since I've certainly never forgotten the pronunciation.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I learned it from a mystery novel where an American character was mocked for pronouncing it as "Saint John" rather than "Sinjun". It's not so much that she didn't know the pronunciation right off the bat, but she'd been going on about how [first name] St. John was simply her oldest, best friend, yet she didn't know how to pronounce the woman's name.

Heroine Complex By Sarah Kuhn

Evie Tanaka — beleaguered assistant to a supernaturally gifted, demon-fighting diva — is thrust into the spotlight when her own secret powers are revealed! "The urban fantasy we deserve. Sarah Kuhn is the total package" (New York Times bestselling author Seanan McGuire).

I saw her at a reading at Mysterious Galaxy and bought the book on the strength of the description and her reading. I haven't read it yet, but Seanan (the one I was at the reading for) recommends it!

Oh, I've read that, it's very fun. Very lightweight but entertaining.
