Mal: Cut it out. Job's not done until we're back on Serenity. Zoe: Sorry, sir. Didn't mean to enjoy the moment.

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

This is cool!

Crowd-sourced "literature map" that lets you see "readers who like this author also like" in a very nice graphical format.

Why isn't everyone pelting me with JOY, dammit? - Zenkitty

Very cool - investigating a new author in another tab even as we speak!

Our wings are not tired.

The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter by Theodora Goss is awesome

As a reward to myself this morning, after cleaning up several times after a sick dog, I added this one to my Nook. I have to laugh at myself since I already have many years worth of unread volumes in paper and electronic form here. But I deserved a reward and the reviews from my friends are making it irresistible.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

People, The Strenge Case of the Alchemist's Daughter by Theodora Goss is awesome, and you should all go read it. Jilli, I think it's especially up your alley.

I have it from the library. As soon as I finish the two books ahead of it, I'm reading it.

Aha, it's available on Audible and I have a credit. That'll do.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

I'm trying to organize my children's book collection by age. Is there a good website to use as reference?

information libertarian

Like, reading level? There are sites that give lexile scores - on a quick check Amazon seems to include them for things. But for the most part format is more telling - board books vs. picture books vs. early/easy readers vs. middle grade (="chapter books") vs young adult (which are chapter books with more sophisticated themes, basically.)

Also, size of font (which corresponds to # of words per page).

Nancy Pearl's summer reading list, via NPR: [link]

love the sound of the first book, a vintage Hollywood mystery with Edith Head (!) as one of the detectives.

I read it - really good
