The second review is China Mieville. I guess I should be reading China Mieville? I can't remember if I have tried or not.
Kinda stuck on catching up on CJ Cherryh (just finished book 7 of Foreigner or First Contact or whatever the atevi novels are known as and very into this project. Seeing heretofore unsuspected parallels between Bren Cameron and Miles Vorkosigan which I would like to parlay into a literature review of SF heroes written by women if someone would like to give me a grant for that) for a while, I think, but I could move Mieville from the "I've heard that name but I don't remember the context " mental list to "yes, read" list, I suppose.
Awesome David!!
China Mieville - what sj said.
I can't remember if I tried reading Mieville and found him not my cup of tea or if I just haven't gotten to his stuff yet. Either way, will probably read eventually.
Right now I am working my way through the Foreigner series. Just started book nine, and am delighted to see non-Bren POV! I mean, I like Bren and all, but actual atevi thoughts is a pretty exciting prospect.
God bless the library and all its works.
I'm re-reading the Skulduggery Pleasant books because I don't have the spoons to read anything new.* But that's how I found out there was a new book coming out, so hey. (I was idly searching Tumblr for the #SkulduggeryPleasant tag, and there it was.)
*Although I did read the new InCryptid book, which was fun.
I'm reading Martha Wells' Murderbot Diaries, and it's REALLY GOOD. Definitely recommended.
Ok, so I just finished Parasite, and I have an "ask the audience" question. At the end, Sal's all
"Oh my god, a worm is driving this meat suit"
And I'm like,
"Lady, I've known that since page 4."
Is that just me? Was it
supposed to be at all suspenseful,
or was it
a literary exercise in a journey from denial to acceptance of self-as-other?
DebetEsse, I guess the latter? Maybe? That seemed to be the continuing trajectory. That whole trilogy was really not up to the level of the Newsflesh series.
Consuela I cannot wait to read that
