I'll just jump in my time machine, go back to the twelfth century, and ask the vampires to postpone their ancient prophesy for a few days while you take in dinner and a show.

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

not your mom's socks.

Pix is me. Witches all the way down.

THIS IS ABSOLUTE TRUTH.

Co-signed, t-shirt purchased.

Ok, I don't know whether to put this in Lit, Music, or F2F... because Sheryl's Gary just made the most amazing thing and sang it at Balticon, so I'm putting it here because it's book related: [link] (and awesome)

Our wings are not tired.

That was brilliant! Well done, Gary.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I have been humming that all morning.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

You can't go wrong if you start at either of Guards! Guards! or Equal Rites. The early Rincewind books aren't as good. The Death books are wonderful, but are probably best read after at least some background from some of the others. Same for the industrials (I use a lot of quotes about the guild of Alchemists on my students).

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

Gris, try Kate Elliott. She has 3 complete fantasy series, and 2 under way. All very good.

Thrive to spite them

I have come to realize I'm not a huge fan of the Discworld series. I like the first one. But Id idn't like Equal Rites that much or the one with Death. I think it was the first one. But I wasn't reading them in a proper order.

mostly the writing style became too much about half way through.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Still thinking Vorkosigans, and at one point in the last couple of weeks, I went looking for Taura fan art to no avail. So I don't know what this is actually about, but I like it for Taura! [link]

Also, there's a guy who I see on my commute some days who could be the physical model for Miles, and I can't decide if I hope he does or doesn't know about the series.

Good one! I don't know what it's meant to be either, but I like the girliness with the leonine fierceness for Taura.

I'm glad you brought up the Vorkosigans - I find myself still periodically wondering why Gregor is not named Ezar. Maybe mentioning it out loud, as it were, will get it out of my head.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I just figured that Prince Serge was too much of a dick to bother following cultural naming practices.

That is an important question! Which I will now wonder about, but I think Serg=dick is probably the reason. I've also been wondering how Ivan rates a "Lord." Is it from the Vorbarra side somehow? (which, a minute later, I now see is what Wikipedia presumes...)
