Saffron: I'll die. Mal: Well, as a courtesy, you might start getting busy on that, 'cause all this chatter ain't doin' me any kindness.

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Bujold actually asked to be taken off their slate, and they refused.

That's nice to hear, at least.

The status is NOT quo.

Another book rec for book lovers: The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin. It's the story of a cranky, yet delightful, bookseller on a little island off the coast of Massachusetts who finds a baby girl abandoned in his shop and traces his life. Sweet, heartwarming, and moments of sadness, and I enjoyed the heck out of it.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

From what I've seen, the Sad Puppy slate did, which I find equally confusing.

The Sad Puppies didn't do a slate; they did an actual recommendation list culled from comments where anyone could recommend things.

This year confirms that it's really the Rabid Puppies who are fucking things up. Nothing made the ballot from the SP recs unless it was also on the RP slate (except for a couple things that clearly would have made it anyway based on their presence on other awards ballots).

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

For the record, I saw a lot of lobbying for Tingle in decidedly anti-Puppy spaces. Like, there have been a LOT of Tingle Hugo Threads on FFA. Once my Media Blackout is over, I'll have to check the reactions.

OMG, Sunil! Check out your quotes in here!

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

I recently read a novella by Mary Robinette Kowal, The Escapement of Blackledge which was written as kind of an Aprils Fool joke. It's entertaining, not very long, and contains some very amusing language.

Because books.

Oooh, Sunil!

The various Puppies sound pretty awful, for what that's worth.

Another book rec for book lovers: The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin.

That sounds lovely.

I'm finishing The Winter People right now. Anyone else read it?

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin.

I'm seconding this. I read it a while back and thought it was so enjoyable.

I also read that a while back, and it was not what I thought it was going to be? I'm not sure what I thought it was going to be. But I did enjoy it.
