Spike: Heard what happened up top, offing your dad and all. Don't know if you know this, but, uh…I killed my mum. Actually, I'd already killed her, and then she tried to shag me, so I had to-- Wesley: Thank you. I'm…very comforted.

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

Always Anti-fascist!

OMG... Of course Sherman Alexie's "Indian Killer" guarantees I see Hillerman as an insecure, wanna-be bedwetter because that's what his Hillerman-type is like...it really has influenced my view of him. What's a tango pirate?

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

What's a tango pirate?

Like a stevedore. Only with a rose in his teeth.

Always Anti-fascist!

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

And better footwork.

Some of the tango pirates were really privateers for the dancing queen.

OK, I know a lot of you like the Honor Harrington books. I've been feeling in a very space-opera mood lately, and picked up the first one at the used bookstore the other day, just cracked it open.

Someone please tell me it gets better. I mean, I'm only ten pages in, but...dude. Empathic tree cat? Seriously?

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Someone please tell me it gets better. I mean, I'm only ten pages in, but...dude. Empathic tree cat? Seriously?

Intelligent empathic tree cat...

The first book isn't too bad. I think the second is better.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I mean, I'm only ten pages in, but...dude. Empathic tree cat? Seriously?

Yeah, that's about as far as I got before I decided I'd be better off just rereading the Vorkosigan series.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Oddly, the tree cat didn't bother me. It was the pages and pages of description of battle maneuvers that led me to decide I didn't have any interest in reading the rest of the series.
