Yeah, we're building a race of frog-people. It's a good time

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Gone Girl.

You guys weren't kidding.

Ahem.

WHAT. WHAT. WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK. HOLY FUCKING FUCK. HOLY SHIT. WHAT THE SHIT. OH MY FUCKING GOD.

I am so glad I'm listening to this book because the voice acting adds so much: JULIA WHELAN CHANGES HER FUCKING VOICE. SHE SOUNDS LIKE A TOTALLY DIFFERENT PERSON NOW THAT SHE'S THE REAL AMY. SO LIKE THE VERY MOMENT SHE ANNOUNCES "PART 2. AMY ELIOT DUNN. THE DAY OF" YOU HEAR THE CHANGE BEFORE THE ACTUAL REVEAL IN THE TEXT. IT'S SO WONDERFULLY DISORIENTING.

You guys.

MY HEAD ASPLOOOOOODE. I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. WHILE I NEVER SUSPECTED THIS LEVEL OF DECEPTION, AMY'S DIARIES SEEMED SO VERY WRITTEN, "LET ME SET THE SCENE," WITH A LEVEL OF DETAIL I WOULDN'T EXPECT IN A DIARY. AND IT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE BECAUSE IT WAS KIND OF RIGHT THERE ALL ALONG: AMAZING AMY IS A FICTIONAL CREATION AND SO IS AMY. I LOVE STORIES ABOUT IDENTITY SO I AM SO INTO THE IDEA OF AN AMY WHO CREATES AND RECREATES HERSELF. I KNEW WE HAD TWO UNRELIABLE NARRATORS BUT I TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY FELL FOR THE RUSE THAT THE ONE WHO WAS MORE UNRELIABLE WAS NICK. EVEN IF I WASN'T POSITIVE HE KILLED AMY.

And then.

NICK OPENS THE WOODSHED AND NOW HE KNOWS TOO. HOLY FUCKING SHIT AMY KNEW ABOUT ANDY AND THE TREASURE HUNT WAS A VICIOUS GAME. JESUS IS SHE EVEN PREGNANT. WAS SHE CHEATING ON HIM. HOW DEEP DO THESE LIES GO.

GILLIAN FLYNN YOU PUT THIS REVEAL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BOOK. WHAT THE FUCK IS THE REST OF THIS BOOK. WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK.

This book is amazing give Gillian Flynn all the pizza trophies.

(If you make any whitefont replies, please let me know if any portions are not safe for me.)

not your mom's socks.

Does Nora come into Literary? This seems like it's leaning towards her wheelhouse? [link]

(Caveat: I'm friends with the author. - Was just driving home and thought - OH. Nora!)

I will second that recommendation! Picking it up tomorrow. The first one was really fun.

Also, Gone Girl keeps getting more fucked up. I'm very anxious/curious to see where it's going now.

"What kind of magical sunshine and lollipop world do you live in? Because you need to be medicated."-SFist

So, despite having to wait an hour for Maggie Q and Mekhi Phifer to show up and talk for two minutes, I'm very glad I went to see Divergent. I thought it was quite entertaining.
