Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

Apparently Eleanor and Park, and Fangirl, are both on sale for $1.50 each. I highly recommend, especially at that price!!

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

This post has been brought to you by § ita § toots her friends' horns:

I haven't read My Date From Hell yet (I'm fucking remiss because I haven't read the first book in the trilogy, My Ex From Hell either, but at least I own it), but it's an ebook written by a friend whose writing I've liked a lot in the past. It's YA with an ancient Greek mythology flavour. It's on sale for 99¢, and if you do read it, I'll be curious to hear what you think.

Signed,
Still Waiting For The Nook Book.

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

Shouldn't "My date from hell" precede "My ex from hell" ?

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Having finished it, I'm on the fence about it, both content-wise and stylistically.

Tep,

I am glad you said this. I'm about halfway through, and I'm side-eyeing the book right now.

Librarian Warlord

I finished Allegiant, and am pretty much . . . it was fine, I guess? I feel like Roth didn't do the hard work of addressing some of the questions/consequences she brought up in the first place, and in line with that the stylistic change to this book was a lazy way out.

I'm waiting to hear what my 14 year old niece thought of it.

X-posting from Bitches... here's a teaser selfie of my Night Circus costume. I hope to get a better picture tonight.

Why isn't everyone pelting me with JOY, dammit? - Zenkitty

Saw Seanan Maguire (technically Mira Grant) last night at my fave bookstore. She was smart and funny and articulate - pretty awesome. I'm hoping I didn't come off as much of a moron as I felt like (a la Chris Farley, "You remember? That time? That time you wrote that book I liked? Remember? That was AWESOME!") PC, I did mention that I was a friend of yours - but I think I made her very confused when I said I'd get a prize...

Anyway, she was altogether fabulous and I was altogether a doofus.

You look stunning, Smonster.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

That's Seanan! I'm always impressed by how articulate she is in her public appearances. Some of it is having answered the same questions a million times ("Why did you use a pseudonym?" oh my God a three-second Google will tell you the answer) but some of it is magic. I still remember her glorious takedown of an Old White Guy who didn't think it was necessary to make an effort to include female authors in anthologies, just go by the quality of the work.

Haha, she got million-and-one on the pseud question! Although I did find the answer interesting (and had never thought to Google), so you know, there's that...

That does sound like something that would be brilliant to see.

Sad I can't see smonster from work computer (FB blocked). Marked for later...
