Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

Debet, there are parts that of HoL I found super creepy. In a 'put it in the freezer' kind of way. Def. not late night reading.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

I don't read books that make me feel like that. Possibly the last time I did, I was in college reading Stephan King short stories.

I am more of a Joey-- I would put Little Women in the freezer because it is sad when Beth dies!

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

What's everyone's "worst(best?) book to read alone in the house late at night?"

Pet Semetary freaked my shit out hard.

In Life of Pi the discovery that the Island was a carnivorous being gave me such the wiggins that I didn't sleep all night.

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

Ooh, good one! Anyone ever read "The Witches of Worm" by Zilpha Keatley Snyder? Because I looked askance at my cats for a WHILE reading that as a kid, and upon re-reading as an adult.

Sophia, I've put (a very few) books cover down or in the car because I felt like evil radiated off them. Totally irrational, but...

Because books.

I loved The Witches of Worm!

I remember being up late one night sometime in high school reading Floating Dragon by Peter Straub and really freaking myself out.

I have to have my hair tied back when I wash my face to this day because of the drain in It.

Every time I bend to splash water, I eyeball it and think "Beverly was suddenly aware of her hair hanging down in two thick sheaves..."

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Pretty sure mine is, indeed, House of Leaves.

My psyche, she is strange.

This book is going to destroy your psyche. Are you reading the footnotes/appendices?

Because books.

Storm drains had a whole new creepiness after It.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

I've only had footnotes thus far, but, yes. I basically always read footnotes and appendices.
