Yes, it's terribly simple. The good guys are always stalwart and true, the bad guys are easily distinguished by their pointy horns or black hats, and, uh, we always defeat them and save the day. No one ever dies, and everybody lives happily ever after.

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

For people that couldn't post a comment on my blog, are you using IE? I remember vaguely that I was having problems with keeping signed in to Blogger with IE, which is why I eventually switched to Chrome.

Nope, Firefox.

not your mom's socks.

I'm using chrome. I tried to sign in with my WordPress account. It kept telling me my information couldn't be verified. It was perfectly happy to take my google info.

Punishingly Intricate

Ha! Was catching up here and kept thinking my comment would be "In conclusion, everyone should read David Mitchell."

Cloud Atlas and Thousand Islands tie for my faves of his but I have loved them all! Sad I have no more to read until he publishes again.

A sample from The Winds of Winter (A Song of Ice and Fire book 6). This is going to be a loooong wait.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I just finished NK Jemisin's The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms. I was liking it pretty well, and then it went and really ate the shit out of a trope I didn't know I also hated outside of Supernatural fanfic. I thought I could handle her having been a god too the whole time, but her ascension as herself drove me batshit. I suspect this might just be me and my issues, but I tend to feel a bit betrayed about my previous identification with and sympathy for the character.

Who else has read the book? Did she handle the plotline well, and I just can't see past my blinkers?

Given that I liked the writing, other than that, and the world she created, is her second book recommended?

ita ! I can't see your whitefont from my phone, so I'll give a quick answer now and revisit later. I've read all three and liked them all. Book 2 & 3 each take a different focus and Yeine and Nahadoth are in the background. I'd say yes, if you liked the writing, check out book 2. I'll get back in here about plot when I can get to my laptop.
