I think it's one thing to get someone else's words stuck in your head and use them in something thinking they're your own. And (1) it's likely to be a few words, maybe a sentence, and (2) it's done unknowingly. Lifting entire sections or complete books, and knowing what you're doing, is one thing. And this guy isn't even terribly apologetic about it.

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.
There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."
I am somewhat in awe of the guy's chutzpah, in that "Dude, you're scum, but wow, those are some big balls" way.
wrod.
What's the legal issue? I don't know Terri. I'd think about giving money for her health, because I know how shitty a situation creators get into, but I have no idea about an unknown legal issue. And, seriously, Neil Gaiman isn't my ethical minder. I'd need more than his say so.
I don't know - but I figured there might be some people here who would be interested.
I love Terri Windling's work. I've got a bunch of fairy tale and urban fantasy collections that she edited/curated.
Everything I'd want to bid on (a doll from Wendy Froud! Artwork from Charles Vess!) is waaaaay out of my price range.
I'm in no way saying or implying you shouldn't link to it. I'm just raising an issue I have with the premise. It's discussion, not quashing.
So because Neil Gaiman donated to the auction - that means that he is judging you if you don't participate?
Because that's not how I felt about it.
No, that's not what I meant. Looking back, I didn't even say anything like that.
I meant that him deeming it a worthwhile cause because he knows the details is no substitute for my own knowledge and judgment.
