Hey, evil dead, you're in my seat.

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

Have any of you read What Alice Forgot? I just finished it -- my school's librarian bought it for the library. I CANNOT imagine any high schooler reading this and enjoying it. As am adult I thought it was touching and a little close to home, but for a high school student? Oh hells no.

not your mom's socks.

I finished Feed and was just settling in with Wee Free Men (I get all the best book recs from my Buffistas) on our last day at the beach when HKF asked to see what I was reading. And now won't give it back. She's on ch. 2. With instructions to stop if it gets scary or inscrutable. Someone yell if I'm being a bad mom ok? Or, you know, help me figure out a way to get my book back.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I just finished reading True Grit. That was a fun book. I've never seen either movie, so I can't compare it, but I loved the narrative voice of the book.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Someone yell if I'm being a bad mom ok?

There are some moments of high dramatic tension, but I don't think too overtly scary. Good on 'er! And may she finish it quick so it gets back to you.

You definitely want to se the Coen brothers' version as they tried to keep as much of that voice as possible. It's been so long since I saw the Wayne version, I can't remember it well, though I am sure that Kim Darby did a good job with the character (despite being significantly older).

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Franken,

I didn't really like Kim Darby's take on the character, having seen the movie in January. I definitely prefer the Coen brother's version of the movie to the John Wayne version. John Wayne does a pretty good job though.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

when HKF asked to see what I was reading. And now won't give it back.

The big rule growing up (I was older than HKF) was that I couldn't "borrow" a parent's book to read until they were finished. Thankfully they read quickly as well. So there was usually a book to grab and devour.

Because books.

Stephen and Jake used to have cage matches to get to the newest Harry Potter first.

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

Heh -- I'm still the fastest reader in the fam, but not by a huge margin. My mom's the slowest -- it takes her 2 WHOLE DAYS to get through a book!

If my mom or dad was being stubborn, I'd just wait till they'd gone to bed, and stay up and read whatever I was impatient to get my hot little hands on.
