Now, I can hold a note for a long time...actually I can hold a note forever. But eventually that's just noise. It's the change we're listening for. The note coming after, and the one after that. That's what makes it music.

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

"What kind of magical sunshine and lollipop world do you live in? Because you need to be medicated."-SFist

I too loved Room though it was against my initial reaction to the premise.

Interesting... because the premise is why I avoided it.

Art Crawl!!!

Ooh, Dunk & Egg are going to Winterfell in the 4th Dunk & Egg novela.

(Darn it: it's speculation that they're going to Winterfell - because the title is "Dangerous Women" and the "Wolf Women of Winterfell" had been mentioned by GRRM at some point elsewhere.)

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

It's almost nothing like what you might expect based on the premise, I think -- mostly because the narrator is the kid.

Because books.

I just read the first few pages on Amazon. She gets that kid voice really well.

Well, if you read the sample bits and can't deal with it, it's not for you, but I thought it was just lovely.

Because books.

I love a child's voice that seems realistic to me, because so often they really, really aren't.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

I think it was a good voice, definitely not one that irritated.

I read the book prepared to hate it and I just....didn't. It surprised me. Especially the change halfway through.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I thought the narrative voice was the best thing about the book.
