sj, how about Hereville: How Mirka Got Her Sword? I haven't read the whole thing, but I've flipped through it at the local bookstore and it looks utterly charming. School Library Journal and Booklist both gave it a lot of love, too.
'Get It Done'
Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.
There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."
JZ, that looks very interesting.
I've read Mirka, and loved it.
The Post reviewed Jean Auel's latest recently; it began:
Sometimes it feels as though entire hominid species have evolved in less time than it takes to read “The Land of Painted Caves”
OMG. hilarious.
Does anyone know what book this is describing?
“I'll give you a hint...it's about a Vampire and Witch (not a young adult novel) and they talk incessantly about wine, tea, horseback riding and yoga (kinda makes me want to barf). There's a lot of historical stuff thrown in, which makes it pretty interesting at times. But, yeah, I kinda can't believe I am still reading it.”
I have no clue, megan.
In other news, a piece on The Bechdel Test and classic literature.
The comments list a few novels that pass, but I'm trying to come up with more.
megan, the Sookie Stackhouse books maybe? I have never read one so it's a shot in the dark
No, definitely not Sookie.
Hummm... A Discovery of Witches? I have that on my Nook but haven't started it yet
