Buffy ,'Get It Done'

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Is there anyone nearby from whom I could borrow the Hunger Games books? Or at least Mockingjay ? I can buy the first one since it's in paperback, and Catching Fire doesn't have a prohibitive number of holds now, but Mockingjay has over 30 holds right now, so it could be months before I get a chance.

I'm reading a book I own right now, AIFG!

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I'm reading To Kill a Mockingbird right now for my book group. Somehow I missed reading it in school. It's really good so far. I often have trouble with adult books that have children as the main PoV characters, as the authors can make them unreasonably precocious or get heavy handed with the irony. But Scout's a fun kid to spend time with.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

It never stops being really good, Calli. Lucky you, to be reading it for the first time. Scout is one of the great child narrators, describing things she doesn't understand but the reader does.

Always Anti-fascist!

Love that book, and the movie too.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

I read TKaM for my book club in junior high. It was the favorite book of the teacher who moderated the club, and he always had it as the first book of the year. I love it to pieces.

Too bad he had to follow it with Michener's Chesapeake, a mindnumbing slog of a book after reading TKaM!

To Kill a Mockingbird was one of the few books assigned to me in high school that I really enjoyed. It's just fantastic. The movie is also fabulous.

TKaM is one of my all time favorite books. I adore it beyond reason. I was worried because my son is not a reader and they are reading it for his honors English class (freshman in HS) and I thought he was going to hate it and have a difficulty with the narrative, BUT he loved it! I'm so happy! Now maybe I can get him to read something else *knock wood* I think The Odyssey is next up for them.. gulp

When I read The Odyssey in school my teacher brought in the Wishbone episode. High school kids now are probably too young to remember Wishbone, but we were ALL excited about it.

Oh and Steph, I finally got the new Skullduggery book, hand delivered by my bro! He had originally planned to come and visit when it came out but his trip got postponed and he didn't want to spoil the surprise of him just showing up with it. He told me that I'd better appreciate him flying 6000 miles for delivery - he's a dork!

I probably won't be able to start it until next week but I plan on it being my entertainment for the long weekend. So I should report back soon.
