Spike: We got a history, him and me. Fred: What? Spike: It was a long time ago. He was a young Watcher, fresh out of the academy when we crossed paths. It was a, what-you-call battle of wills and blood was spilled. Vendettas were sworn. It was a whole-- Fred: My God you're so full of crap. Spike: Yeah. Okay.

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

Oooh! Behemoth (sequel to Scott Westerfeld's Leviathan) is in for me at the library!

EEEEEE!!!

I read Leviathan this summer and LOVED it.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I *almost* was looking forward to the art in Behemoth more than the story. *Almost.*

Because books.

My copy of Catching Fire came today! I'm expecting to be done by the weekend so I can go get Mockingjay.

Amy, thanks for recommending Joe Hill's Twentieth Century Ghosts. I got it out of the library for my next book salon on Classic Horror (along with Daphne du Maurier's Don't Look Now ). I've read the first four stories and am thoroughly enjoying it.

Because books.

Oooh, I can't wait to see what you think of "Abraham's Boys" and "Voluntary Committal." Oh god, and "Pop Art." That one blew me away.

Hah. That's funny.

That's the third(?) story, so I read it already. Bizarre. It didn't seem to fit with the others, but I liked it. So creative.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

My copy of Sam the Bat arrived yesterday!!

Odd thing - it has a thing on the cover saying "Advance Uncorrected Proof" (I pre-ordered it from Amazon). Still, I'm glad to have it in my possession.

It's not horror, but it was heartbreaking, I thought. I loved it.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Odd thing - it has a thing on the cover saying "Advance Uncorrected Proof"

Huh, that's weird, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't supposed to happen (now you have to seal it up in a plastic case for future collectability and go buy yourself another copy for actual reading). I just pinged the other editors about it.

Still, even so, isn't it a great book?

That's what I was thinking of doing. I figured I could check around to see if an indy store gets it (or order it from one). Amazon was just to make sure I got it ASAP.
