Gunn: The final score can't be rigged. I don't care how many players you grease, that last shot always comes up a question mark. But here's the thing. You never know when you're taking it. It could be when you're duking it out with the Legion of Doom, or just crossing the street deciding where to have brunch. So you just treat it like it was up to you—the world in balance—'cause you never know when it is.

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

I did it months ago--before Megan Walker! But my library put it in forever ago, so I'm #182! Of 92 copies, but I still may end up buying it and canceling my hold.

Hey. New board.

I'm number 444. Of a jillion copies, though, thanks NYC.

I may just Kindle it, though. Except I got the second one from the library, and I think it might be weird to have books one and three on my kindle, but not the second one.

That which does not kill you should RUN

I'm #19 on the library list so I should get it right away.

Dang, my library's Web site doesn't show where I am on the wait list.

The third Gail Carriger book (Blameless) is out Sept 1., IIRC, and I keep checking my library's catalog, but they don't have it in yet. I may just need to order it.

Also, new Skulduggery Pleasant is out Sept. 1, though I think only in the UK/Australia, not the US.

I finally got to read the last one, and all I can say is WOW I didn't expect them to go there! I have already bugged my bro about getting his hands on the new one - I bribed him with a Kitchen Aid stand mixer (not really, it's his Christmas gift).

Darquesse's identity? (Plus, OMGWTF pregnant mom?!?)

BOTH! I think the mom part more - something seems fishy, ya know?

The mom part didn't bug me, except as a way to ratchet up potential for pain.

As for Darquesse, I think she'll be Valkyrie's mirror-reflection. There's too much hinky stuff going on with there being gaps in its memory when Valkyrie gets all its memories from a given time period. Also, I think there was some mention of it having some emotion -- annoyance, maybe, or impatience?

That's my guess.

I dunno, I just got a freaky-strange vibe from it but that could be because of the time gaps between Val being home and away.

I agree on Darquesse - there has been strange stuff going on since Playing With Fire (wasn't there a kiss at school too?).

Yes! Which is sort of creepy.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

Cowboy Feng's Space Bar and Grille is great so far. He had me right off the bat with matzoh ball soup and Irish music and I was taken by surprise when it turned out to be a shoot-em-up. The relationship between Billy and Souci is believably aggravating. I've laughed out loud a few times. It almost reminds me of if Carl Hiaasen wrote sci fi. I just got past the surprising twist in the middle, "I don't like cops."

I know I've read some Brust before, for sure some short stories and I'm pretty sure I read the Taltos books but I can't remember a thing about them.
