Uh, are we gonna fight, or is there just gonna be a monster sarcasm rally?

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

Just finished Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. A third of the way into it I was thinking "Why did I read these again? Good god this is awful writing!" But then I got all caught up in the drama and such, and so on.

Sad, though, that this is the last one since the writer died. I wonder what the next book would have involved (apparently he had it like, half written? And an outline for others?) Wonder if it would've involved her twin sister

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Apparently a good chunk of the fourth book is on his laptop and it's in dispute between his long-term girlfriend and his father and brother.

It'll come out eventually, I expect.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I just started The Windup Girl, and am loving it. Anyone else read it?

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

No, but I keep meaning to pick it up.

I just finished Gimme Something Better: The Profound, Progressive, and Occasionally Pointless History of Punk in the Bay Area. Loved it. I never knew The Misfits were persona non grata in the Bay Area, for example.

Punishingly Intricate

Yes! Man, he needed a way more heavy handed editor. However, I do know everything about the Swedish secret service now! I imagine that the 4th book must have had something to do with Lisabeth's sister, right? Because she is only briefly mentioned and he was not brief about anything!

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

Oh, dear. She has provided me with hours of enjoyment.

Occasionally I’m callous and strange

Well gosh darnit. I'm listening to the Hollows Series by Kim Harrison as audio books. The first 5 books were performed by Marguerite Gavin who was wonderfull. Now i'm on the 6th book narrated by Gigi Bermingham. She might have been ok on her own, but after hearing the others she's just AWFUL. She doesn't even pronounce character names or key elements the same. You'd think there'd be a reference key. The characters are very different with her whiny portrayal and i suddenly am less interested in finishing this book....except that i know the next one goes back to Ms. Gavin and i'd miss important plot points if i skipped an entire book due to shoddy vocal performance. It's profoundly upsetting me in a very first world kind of way.
