Well, my days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle.

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

Keep breathing!

It is a great escape book. I keep worrying I'll miss my stop or get robbed on the train, because once I open the book I find it very hard to pry myself out of it again.

"We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?"

Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger (author of The Time Traveler's Wife)

Ooh, that one's on its way to me. Can't wait! I need to get on and finish 'And Another Thing', Colfer's sequel to the Hitchhiker's Guide series, too. It's been fantastic so far.

Erin, have you figured out the Shelfari app?

I can't seem to get it to work. If I add it to my profile, it shows up as a post instead of the sidebar (which doesn't make sense to me), only some of my friends show up in the invite box, etc.

move out and draw fire

Same here, megan. Although as an application, it will only be in your sidebar if you want it to be; otherwise it's in the application menu.

Hmmph. It's not working for me either, and I know you're on my FB. I talked to you!

I'm just a-gonna do it via y'all's profile addys, I think.

Keep me posted.

How do I put it there? I went to the visual bookshelf app and that had an obvious "add to your profile page" button. It seemed to happen automatically with the "where you've been" app, but I'm still learning FB so maybe I'm just not seeing something obvious.

From reading the reviews on the Shelfari app FB page, it seems that it in general doesn't work for anyone.

I can SEE you, Raq, Hayden and Victor are members...but no shelves.

Pffft. I say. I shall use the site until their facebook app works.

I am Erin G. on Shelfari.

At least now I feel like less of an idiot.

Apparently the original invite I sent to my SIL worked. She can see her shelf and mine via FB. But I can't see hers. And I don't show up for her to invite. It's crazy making.

Methinks they have a few bugs to work out.

Herding cats for fun

Two books for y'all:

Fran Gage's Bread and Chocolate, My Food Life in San Francisco. Chock full of interesting little stories about climbing the rain-damp hills searching for mushrooms, visiting the cheese-maker way out on the sheep ranch, plumbing Tomales Bay for oysters.... All that, plus bread and an article about Scharfenberger Chocolate, which was sad, cause by now they've been bought out.

Only $3 at Half Price Books.

I am now about 1/3 of the way through Elizabeth Kostova's The Historian, and it's the most Buffista-esque adventure. They keep leaping onto trains traveling through old European cities, hoping to find vital information at the library. Plus they're hunting the legend of Vlad "The Impaler" Tepes. I keep thinking, if Buffy had been the giant brain daugher of a diplomat...
