Yay for groceries! And coffee!
See Laura banging her head against the desk. I just got back from a conference at school. My son is suspended for 5 days. He "found" a swiss army knife in the gym last period of school Friday. He brought it on the bus and showed it to another kid, that kid took it and threatened another kid. The threatened kid reported the whole thing to his mother. Mom told school. My son is friends with both of these boys, but they don't like each other. (really he is friends with everyone and thought of as a goofball and totally nonviolent) The security staff was as stunned as me. Didn't see this one coming.
How can such a smart kid be so stupid? He still doesn't get how serious and wrong his behavior was. He will by the time I have him with me for a week. Good grief. And on top of it all I really hoped to get a lot done today. This is not one of those fun parenting moments.
Mine was suspended on Friday for getting into a shoving match, Laura. I feel your pain. Same sort of thing -- once there's widespread involvement, everybody is at fault.
So smart with no common sense. He really needs to get better decision making skills before he goes to High School next year. The school police officers were good with him. They know him since they have seen him for 3 years and he stands out with his whiteness and height. And big old goofball ways. They lectured him about the glory of being a thug. They have really bad kids they deal with all the time. They have drugs and gangs and the whole thing. This is big city public middle school.
They said they know very well that he is a good kid. They know he never gets into conflicts with the other kids. They also pointed out that if he dresses like a thug and talks like a thug people who don't know him so well are going to assume the worst about him.
I am so looking forward to telling DH. He isn't home until after midnight tonight coming back from St. Louis. Not sure if I should tell him before he flies home so he has some time to calm down or wait until he sees he isn't going to school tomorrow.
Sigh.
Laura & Betsy - now you have me scared I'm gonna get a call from CJ's school.
{{{}}} to you both - and your kidlets. Being stuck with an unhappy mom - not a fun thing.

Ooooh, he has the makings of an engineer.
I vote for telling DH before hand so he can chill before he gets home. Unless you think his hot ire would help your son see the seriousness.
Dear Anal Retentive VP's:
Who the fuckall cares what my desk looks like when I go home at night? Does the cleaning crew judge me for my untidiness? Maybe they just think, "Gosh, she has an awful lot of work to catch up on."
Believe me - I wouldn't be sitting at the front desk if I didn't have to, but my hard drive went and committed suicide last week. And so, here I am until I get the new one. And I was gone for a week. I'm CATCHING UP. It will be as clean as I can get it and still know where the fuck everything is. So deal. No one cares. Trust me.
Bugger you for a bunch of grapes, bananas AND a freaking game of soilders,
Me

HAH! It's funny 'cause it's true.
Aimee, smite them. DO IT!

That sounds terrifyingly like Leif. Of course if my wife has it the way she wants, he will be home schooled until college. I'm much less comfortable with this idea.

Hee. My desk is the worst, I thought. I was in a doctor's office last week doing something to his computer and was delighted that his office was so much worse than mine. Huge stacks of stuff all over the place. Sticky notes on everything. It was very funny. And his office doesn't even have any paper charts. Everything is electronic. Still stacks and stacks of stuff everywhere. It was all homey and stuff.
