On the plus side, I haven't spent my book advance (because I haven't gotten it yet). And all of my co-workers who were smart enough to leave before me will give me good references.
'The Message'
Spike's Bitches 29: That sure as hell wasn't in the brochure.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
I'm so very sorry, Hec.
Hec, that's rotten.
Aw, crap, Hec. I am so sorry. I'm glad you're getting out of there, but I do wish it were on your own terms.

Oy, Hec. That totally blows. At least you have the presence of mind to sense it. Most of the time, layoffs have come as a surprise to me. There have been a couple of times I started to sense that the higher-ups were looking for an excuse to push me out, but I didn't move on it fast enough.
Now I like working on jobs that have a definite end date. I do them very well, and I'm very knowledgable and competent at my jobs, but it seems that people can tolerate a little more in the oops departement (provided it's not major) when they know that everybody's job is going to end in a few weeks anyway, and we all go off to look for the next gig.
I sure hope things go well with finding a new job Hec. Best wishes.
Thanks, all.
I think JZ is more stressed about it than I am. I temped for 10 years. Knowing we've got enough money to pay the rent for three months in advance without a twitch still feels like a luxury.
Also the job market is fairly decent in SF right now. It'll sort out. I've been in worse situations.
Having a Book Contract does a lot to cushion the ego-blow too.
Ah heck, Hec. I'm sorry.
I'm sorry, Hec. Good luck on the job hunt.
At least you have the presence of mind to sense it.
I've got a mole in the ministry of information. Though the fact that they've just hired a temp with my job title and a long list of similar credentials is a bit of a hint.
It means nothing, they assured me. Uh huh. They're being so skeezy about it, really.
