Who's going for "Funniest Hate Email Ever"?
A friend of mine wrote Scully/Doggett during season 8 of the X-Files. During the story they drink red wine. She got an email that accused her of being French.
I just loved that.
It wasn't hate mail, but I got compared to a Holocaust apologist by an LFN bit player.
Accused of being French? That is awesome.
I was once taken to task in my LJ for *not* using the Vampire Consort thing in a Spike/Xander story.

Were you also lectured on account of a lack of purring? Because that would be extra-funny.
Oh, and don't forget the person on BBF who was upset at the ooky slash and wondering if you were going to put some hot Spuffy lovin' in Career Change.

Oh, god, yes, the "Slash! Oh, god, my eyes!" people. I mean, they didn't see it coming?
I think I just sighed (then snickered) at the Spuffy-requester. I can't imagine the twists I'd have to play on the plot to make Spuffy a reality in Career Change. A spell, maybe, or stupid drunkenness. Though I did write a pornless Buffy/Angel story once, out of pity for the poor girl.
It's funny, with the hetfen in certain fandoms feeling very oppressed at the moment, to look at things from a more fandom-wide perspective and see that, yes, in fact, there are still corners of the globe where slash is considered just as ooky as ever.
Of course, my answer is to just write--and read--everything.
(Certain pairings are exceptions to that rule, but I do at least attempt to try everything once. Hell, I tried reading highly rec'd Angel/Cordy at least three times before I realized that nope, not getting over that squick anytime soon.)
I think I'm more likely to be a Buffy/Angel person than a Buffy/Spike person, and not just because I'm saving Spike for Xander. There's more of the classic epic quality to Buffy/Angel, and I believe she did love him. I always cry my eyes out over that S2 ep with the '50s ghosts at the high school. That moment when Angelus and Buffy are staring at each other, and then Angelus cuts and runs instead of breaking her neck, which struck me as a more logical response to the situation. It's so Grand Opera.
