Fan Fiction: Writers, Readers, and Enablers
This thread is for fanfic recs, links, and discussion, but not for actual posting of fanfic.
I thought Dick was a cop in Bludhaven these days. (see, I do at least know something about the Bat-verse.)
He was until recently. He was found out as the vigilante Nightwing by his partner, despite his best efforts.
Roy convinced Nightwing to lead The Outsiders anyway, possibly because Roy is hella cute. Also, because Dick needs to belong somewhere, but hey. (This is where my brain decides to do Bruce'n'Dick4Evah!!!!!!!!1!"
No, Bruce wouldn't lay a finger on Dick like that. Catwoman, now ... For some reason I just don't see Bruce Wayne with any slash potential at all. Of course, I never thought the Joker would ever have a sex life, so what do I know?
Plei, I'm serious that Te and I have been batting Dick/Roy ideas around for weeks and weeks. So although I elected to go out and get drunk on Cinco de Mayo instead of finishing the first draft of this Spanderficathon story, don't let that discourage you from hounding me (or co-writing with me) about the Dick/Roy. 'Cause mmmyeah.
Mmm. Yeah. I hounded gay friends about how best to pull it off today. I'm hopeless.

IIRC, Amy was no longer his partner when she found him out. Well, at least, she'd been promoted before she fired his ass. He'd been partnered with what's his face, the gay guy. Though, of course, Outsiders kind of lives in its own continuity bubble, and recent events in Dick's life aren't reflected in it.
Like, you know, Dick in Outsiders? Not sleeping on a fire escape, last I checked. Also not hopelessly broken. (goes to happy Dick place)

Yep. She got bumped upstairs when half the force got canned for the corruption stuff.

Gannon.

Well, yeah, but I was trying to be succinct. Since I was drunk. And typing was very difficult.
Yeah, I have to say the Dick in Outsiders and the Dick in Nightwing are different enough that it makes my scalp itch.
Also, I keep trying to figure out where in Brooklyn the Outsiders headquarters is supposed to be, which is just silly of me but I couldn't stop doing it anyhow.

I keep wanting it to be right under the penis building, but that would just be for snark reasons...
Dick and Roy have known and worked with each other for years.
I don't read comics, because I procrastinate and spend money I don't have as it is. However, I managed to spy the Roy/Dick, or at least the Speedy/Robin in an episode of the cartoon
Teen Titans.
Those boys have the chemistry. If it's in the cartoon, it's gotta be canon, right?
Lord Peter Wimsey says the worst sin that passion can commit is to be joyless. The same goes for fanfic, especially when joyless can be defined as boring. I've been trolling a new list, exploring unfamiliar archives. Two series that were recommended, I can't even finish the first chapters. Maybe there is a brilliant plot in there, as suggested, but the progression is bizarrely flat, and the characterization as well. Buffy is a one-note psychotic, and any of the other characters could exhange lines without noticing. Technique--I can't quibble too hard with technique, because lack thereof only makes me want to take an obviously talented plot-crafter or word-smith under my wing--but there at least needs to be the promise of a jewel underneath the rough.
This matches the background music of the evening. We found the soundtrack to the Lord of the Rings movie Ralph Bakshi made a stab at in the early 90s. I have it on vinyl, and I played it often. The main theme and one or two other bits are quite pleasant, but the rest of it is just ominous chords and big orchestral punctuation points. Just to drive the point home, I'm currently listening to the soundtrack of Return of the King and I'm trying to pin down the differences. Probably the flexibility of orchestration and melody, the use of voices as instruments. Each section has its own sound. Brilliance as compared to pedestrian. Thankfully there is brilliance in the world.
Dunno if anyone around here remembers August from XF, Voyager, and West Wing, but she's started writing again. This time it's Giles.
She's written Buffy/Giles and Faith/Giles, and they're both stunning.
She makes me so happy.
In other news, all Stargate fans should read Katie M's story about love, resurrection, and the slow death of the soul. It's quite marvelous.
