What I remember is that someone came up to them at some sort of public appearance, told them about twincest stories, and took a picture of them holding a sign that said "Twincest sucks" or something like that. The picture was all over Livejournal for a while, and kerufflage occured, with a lot of people saying that it was tacky to recruit real people to further your fanfic cause. I have no idea what the ultimate resolution was, if any.

I was wondering if it was sabotage, if the twins had actually expressed an opinion or had it placed in their hands for a photo op.

I think this -- a fan asked them to pose with the sign, or at least that's the impression I got from what I read about it.

Yeah, that's generally what gets people busted, images being much easier to point to and say "copyright infringement".
