Giles: I'm sure we're all perfectly safe. Dawn: We're safe. Right. And Spike built a robot Buffy to play checkers with. Tara: It sounded convincing when I thought it.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

In the "You Gotta Love Fandom" corner:

Got an LoC on the Alias slash story I wrote this weekend. From someone who doesn't like slash and said she hopes to never read that pairing again. And...might...have intended that as a compliment. I'm frankly befuddled. And laughing, because what else can you do?

You want me to shove her around, boss?

(I'm thinking that I should write a nice, long essay about why people shouldn't complain to the author when they read things they know they won't like. Because, duh.)

Also, Dana, you should have used more international slang.

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

I've gotten a couple of notes like that, and all of them were intended as (backhanded) compliments. Okay, most of them were "I hate X, and wouldn't have read it if you'd spoiled labeled your story properly, but actually, I sort of liked your version of X."

Then again, I can't say as I've ever gotten hate mail, or if I have it's been really really subtle. I am sadly inoffensive.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I have gotten the "I never read this pairing/genre/whatever, but I enjoyed yours." Which is fine. It's the "I don't enjoy slash, and I hope I never ever see this pairing again, but the parts without sex were good" that's new to me.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

A story that confirms what you're heard about SpongeBob SquarePants is true....

I was charmed (albeit somewhat perplexed) by the fannish sensibility of many of the music choices -- it's like the director was trying to vid Canada. --loligo on the Olympic Opening Ceremonies

Okay, I am not even clicking on that link, because I just know it's going to be SpongeBob porn and that's just not going to help.

Oh, who am I kidding?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

It's very cute. I'm tempted to forward it to a co-worker who swears up and down by the Spongeman himself.
