We have to see the chimp playing hockey! That's hilarious! The ice is so slippery, and, and monkeys are all irrational. We have to see this!

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

Wow, it looks like I missed out on good discussion while I was away from the computer yesterday. It's always interesting to read about people's take on fic writing/reading.

While I have little trouble reading NC-17, I find that my own writing tends to stick to a PG-13 rating. Also, like UTTAD, I really like to stick to canon when at all possible. What I really like to do, however, is to fill in gaps or uncharted territory in known canon. I think I've read just a little too much Tim Powers in my time.

Thrive to spite them

The Flashficathon is for 1000 words exactly. I know Mad Poetess asked about it, Marqueitte was going to post a FAQ, actually there was one in the email, you just had to scroll down-I didn't notice it until I was staring at the way my pairings were worded trying to figure out if those were separate pairings or a weird way to ask for a foursome.

I have something like 75, of which I'll end up keep probabyly 30.

The problem is I keep seeing it in my head and can't translate it to words. Or when I can translate it to words I'm in the car driving, which sucks.

Huh. Someone just wrote me and told me I should try to use more international slang in my stories.

I have no idea how to respond, especially since it was about a story where Gunn is the POV character. The babe's from SoCal ,and there's no indication that he's particularly well-traveled.

And what the hell IS international slang, anyway?

I have no idea what they mean, shrift, but my initial reaction is "at last! A language geek's name for 'lol' 'rotflmao' and '4Evah!1!'."

When in doubt, mock.

Heh.

I'm luvv with Anna's latest project. Really well-done free indirect discourse is one of my literary kinks. I get all purry.

Jane St Clair, whose footprints I worship, did a Three Things that Never Happened to Ethan bit.

I think you should reply with "Hose off, eh?" in true Bob and Doug fashion.

Up with the sun

Wild, flailing guess, but maybe the writer was confused by some of the US/SoCal-specific slang you used, wanted less of it, and was trying to phrase the request as a positive rather than a negative?

I'm trying to think of international slang, but the only thing I can come up with are the bits of British slang I use and the odd bits of slang I picked up from an Australian chat friend. I'm pretty sure the slang he uses isn't so much Australian as his own weird way of talking.

I used to know a bunch of Puerto Rican slang, but I've forgotten all of it, and besides, I'm not sure I could work in "your momma bangs ugly ferrets" or whatever the worst of it meant if I tried.

Well, it's either that or write a story entirely in Ebonics, but if I did, there'd be a long line of people waiting to clobber my ass.
