Fan Fiction: Writers, Readers, and Enablers
This thread is for fanfic recs, links, and discussion, but not for actual posting of fanfic.
Elena, yes and yes.
The problem with the story of mine that was remixed is that it was almost my safe story. There were two that I wanted safe and I could only pick one. And what happened to it was exactly why I had wanted to keep it safe. They took a sad, depressing tale of self-destruction and slapped a hopeful ending on it.
I may have screamed, "Nooooooooooo," when I read it. Just a little.
ETA: Which I realize is my issue. But I can't separate from my story.
Seems like you have a whole carb snacky food thing going on.
I may stick to the "crack" theme.
I mean, it's not like I had *that* many people asking me questions about how to write 'em. I just... am lazy, and prefer handing out a URL. Besides, I think there's a Buffy/Doyle Guild site, and a Buffy/Lindsey one, so why the hell not?
Ouch. How did you choose between them?
Some people have crack, other folk have scones.
bitter, I never actual thought about people taking my stories and making them happy.
t shudder
But then, really, they would be very different stories and as long as people didn't think that
I
wrote it...
How did you choose between them?
I made Six Months my safe story because it's hands down the one I am the most proud of. It's special. I wrote it in four hours on a whim and it's got this weird Memento thing to it and there's a whole misdirection on the pairing. Not to mention the use of the Zapatista women. I was really terrified of someone rewriting it. I think it would have hurt. This one just disappointed me.
But then, really, they would be very different stories
I think that's what disappointed me. I really wanted someone to make my story different. Try something new, a different spin or POV or whatever, and wow me. But it's essentially the same story with an extra scene.

Well, yeah.
But it's essentially the same story with an extra scene.
This doesn't seem like the spirit of the remix, if you ask me.
Damn, bitter. All kinds of shitty, that.
Some people have crack, other folk have scones.
....I may need to tag this.
Oh, that is disappointing, bitterchick. Ouch.
My remixer outed herself in the comments to my last Wednesday 100, and I have to say I'm both disappointed not to get to be surprised and a little hesitant at what she'll do with my work.
For myself, I chose one of the plottier, and I thought one of the weaker, pieces by a writer who I think is very, very good indeed at setting mood but less of a storyteller. I tried to extend and clarify the plot, and ended up turning the thing more or less inside out. I think it's turning out really well, but that could be the cold medicine talking.
I had slightly more fun ordering SA around (YOU WILL WRITE THIS ONE! YOU WILL YOU THIS VOICE!) than I did writing mine. Or, rather, picking which one to write.
Well, you didn't have to write it, so that was half the fun there.
I chose "Juxtaposition" as my safe story--which was a hard choice, because I really don't want to see "Cross to Bear" or "Touch, Feel, and Lose" fucked with--much for the same reason bitter chose "Six Months." It was a fantastic writing experience for me, and I love the story.
Though, in my favor, I've got fifty-one stories in a bunch of different fandoms, so hopefully I'm good.
I didn't have a safe story. I couldn't choose, and I decided none of them were really sacred. That was before I wrote 'Various Versions', though, and I sort of hope they don't mess with that. Goddess, I'm nervous about this now-- both about what they'll think of the remix I've written, and about what someone will do to mine. Arghhh! I'm thinking too much about this.
