Nonono - I'll wit for Nic. See, he set the entire system up. This way, if it's screwed up, I get to glare at him or he gets to glare at me, with no other bodies falling by the wayside.
'Kay then.
What do you do, Deb?
What do I do, as in job?
Caterer. I have my own small business. Also, writer. Both pay me, which is all good, but neither really require intense technoskill stuff.
Which is good, because what technoskill stuff (computer-oriented) I once had has drizzled out of my ears and into the cracks in the pavement.
Nic, OTOH, is what Betsy refers to as an alpha-geek.
I'm like a beta-geek. Almost all the way there.
I almost went to cooking school instead of college. How did you get into catering? Do you enjoy it? What kind of events do you do?

Clogging fic with natter, OTOH....
Deborah, that sounds like one of my plans for being self-supporting, only I'd be a wedding/event planner rather than a caterer.
I did some formal cookery training, but this was originally a case of "learn the fundamentals or die and watch those you love die alongside you"; my father was a type 1 diabetic, I have lethal allergies, and no one else in my entire extended family could cook eggs without bringing the Wrath of the Chicken Gods down on their head for abuse.
Catering was a natural for me in the nineties; I'm in San Francisco, so catering a little departmental dotcom party for forty people at, say, Macromedia, was a fast two grand plus tip and a lot of word of mouth.
Alas, the dotcoms went bye bye. Added to this wretched disease, it's made the catering not nearly so lucrative as it once was. Which is one reason I'm having nightmares about my publisher wanting to commit to the rest of the new series. I need a book advance, damnit, especially since I'm likely to have to spend a chunk of any advance from book 2 travelling around and promoting book 1.
Although an Anarach/Buffista did just e me, wanting to know if I wanted to cater between 60-80 people at a post con party. I lurve doing con parties. Fun!
Uhoh. Lyra's got a point; I tend to answer questions and not look at headers. End of natter.
I wasn't trying to end the conversation or anything, Deb. I just thought it was funny to worry about getting all techy, then start with the chit-chat. I mean, my last post here was about Dude Where's My Car, so I have no room whatsoever to be the Topic Nazi.
