I think I like the "wake up in the middle of the night, where's the pen?" stories better than the ones I have to wander around the house muttering about. I can remember the zing of inspiration and how easy the story flowed as opposed to the hours of plot manipulation. Then again, writing an AU that's not too over-the-top is surprisingly tricky. I know what I WANT Xander and Spike to be doing, but laying the groundwork so it doesn't look stupid when/if it finally happens (uncooperative twits) is tricky--but fun.

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

Ooooooh! Hey, I've just had a thought!

I've been in the barren wilderness of mostly-ficless-busy-reality this past month, but unless matters have changed drastically, AJ Hall should be bringing out a new Draco/Neville piece on Valentine's Day! I think it's supposed to be the how-they-got-together story!

Please, deities, let nothing interfere with this?

an overblown libretto and a sumptuous score/ could never contain the contradictions I adore

I was talking to an HP fan today who confessed to reading slash, so I steered her LOP-wards quick as a bunny. Where do I go to claim my toaster?

I have several spare ones, Holli - would you like to take your pick?

I'm a bit worried about the fact that I'm pimping fic in fandoms I don't even write or participate in. Especially because I might eventually end up doing both, and that way lies.... well, being Shrift. Which would be cool, but seems more stressful than I'd like.

Thrive to spite them

I got the BBF digest today and threw out an email. I probably shouldn't have but I saw red.

The whole "oh but if the writer is recced once but not the other times she's needed and then she finds her work criticized how harmful that can be" just got to me.

Plus I'm bitchy and pmsing.

But this whole "oh poor person, it will destroy them if someone says something about their work." How else do people expect to get better as writers? I mean really, if that's what they want, to get better as writers how else do they expect it to happen than to learn what their writing flaws are and fix them.

Do they think there is a magic writing fairy that comes along and slips the good stories under some writers pillows and not others? Sort of a reverse Tooth Fairy?

And the Good Writers, the BNF writers or whatever are treated special by the Magic Writing Fairy and the rest of them are gipped?

Where is she! Where is the rotten little tease?

The bitch sure as hell passed me over when I lost the last draft of my story.

Now that is a take on the whole Clique Wars that I hadn't come across before. It's not that there's a Conspiracy, it's that the better writers are unjustly gifted.
