Fan Fiction: Writers, Readers, and Enablers
This thread is for fanfic recs, links, and discussion, but not for actual posting of fanfic.
The weird part is, books written and marketed as "YA" or older children's fiction may be virginal, but what great numbers of 12-15 year old readers find is not.
Heh. Heh heh. I found a copy of Dhalgren mixed in with tattered copies of A.E. Van Vogt in the pulpy sf and fantasy corner at the public library.
Definitely not a virginal book. Of course, that wasn't so much why it made my brain go explode-y.
pardon the intrusion but this has been bugging me for WEEKS and it's not in the FAQ. What is the meaning of "mpreg"?
figured you kids would be the ones to ask and this would be the place to ask it. thanks!
Oh, are you sure you want to know?
Okay.
It's a strange genre of fanfic which involves male pregnancy.
Male PREGnancy.
You were probably better off not knowing.
oh that's too funny. there really is something for everyone. and i'd really don't want any part of that thing. i don't think...
Thing is, though, that right off the top of my head I can think of three instances of genre shows/movies actually featuring MPreg. Not fanfic - the shows themselves.
I've not read any MPreg fanfic & don't have any particular urge to (unless someone I knew to be an excellent writer were to tackle it, in which case, sure, whatever) but I know it's out there - still, I do feel the need to point out that Enterprise and Alien Nation both featured MPreg, as have various crappy movies and shows like that Arnie vehicle with Emma Thompson. For example.
Um.
t /totally oversensitive to potential ridicule of fanfic.
Didn't Angel almost feature mpreg? (In Epiphany, I think.)

What- you're not intrested in those LotRs Mpregs I found?

I don't watch Alien Nation, and normally I don't bother about Trek, but by all the gods of fanfic, that episode of Enterprise was funny. And, as you say, canon mpreg.
Oh i'm not ridiculing at all! More permutations of human behavior and relationships (and, er, biology?) in all kinda fiction the better. I would never presume to tell anyone what they could or could not write about. I just think it's funny that "mpreg" is an established genre, such as it is. I was wondering about it because it kept popping up in other discussions, unrelated to fan fiction. Mostly punning off of "mpeg".
