Yes, it's terribly simple. The good guys are always stalwart and true, the bad guys are easily distinguished by their pointy horns or black hats, and, uh, we always defeat them and save the day. No one ever dies, and everybody lives happily ever after.

Thanks, RL. And Star Wars was your first fandom?

No, that's what makes it funny. I've still never watched the Star Wars movies-- I came to the SA as though it were original collaborative fiction, dizzyingly organized and controlled and bitingly strangely reflexive and self-parodic. It was shiny.

Then again, it wasn't a very strange-feeling position for me, because I'm very used to reading things and all of their references to other texts I don't know about, because I am, or at least was, what has been fondly called a pop culture nun.

Ah. I'm like that with some things- I still haven't watched any X-files at all, and see yesterday's natter re. my knowledge of Jenifer Lopaz (none). And I read Star wars original Triology stuff with pleasure, despite not having see those movies, either. Phantom Meance is the only one I've seen.

Okay, Hec. Really, I think that last post confirms that you ARE a tease.

Damn! You edited too quickly for me to snark!

Well, that was annoying.

What annoyed you so much, RL? I stayed calm.

I think it was the anal sex and cries of joy with the Kirk/Spock thing. That's where I stopped reading.

It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't satisfying, and I'm always annoyed at the "by googling a phrase you now know about ALL the fandom" or "I talked to one person, and one group of people, and now I can speak authoritatively about everything wrt fic" methods of going about things. And more things; but I'm also just generally irritable, because my paper isn't going quite as well as I'd like, and my back hurts.
