"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I suspect my VCR doesn't even work.

Can't you buy a new one at a 99 cent store?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Can't you buy a new one at a 99 cent store?

Is there still such a thing as a new VCR?

I heard the UN has developed a special hand crank VCR for third world countries that want all our taped-from-the-WB Buffy tapes.

Always Anti-fascist!

It'd still be the kindest bit of nation-building our country has ever done.

The evil is this way?

I suspect my VCR doesn't even work. Last time I powered it on, it ate a friend's tape. I think it's sulking about my Netflix queue being 400 discs deep.

Sounds like my VCR. It had a personality of its own. Also, its own posting name ("Narrator's VCR") at another board, where it would post in triumph each time it ate my tape or failed to record something.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

For JZ, if she ever used LiveJournal.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

My first VCR would not play any rental copy of My Stepmother Is an Alien no matter what chain or individual store I got it from. Either there was something odd about the tape manufacture or it REALLY didn't like Kim Basinger's outfits.

I wish I'd had the chance to try and tape it off broadcast TV to find out for sure.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Oooh, pretty, juliana!

Relatedly but oh so trivially, are you now also in agreement that Rachel McAdams is on teh crack for going all blonde since arriving in the US? As a brunette - cuter than a bug's ear, doesn't look quite like any other ingenue out there (possibly Kate Beckinsale 1.0.ColdComfort, a little) but does look like someone you'd know, someone you'd want to know. Blonde - pretty but shockingly generic starlet. Even Hec, who has a great eye for faces, had to stare and stare at the first blonde picture of her we saw, frowning and saying, "I know her, we've seen her in something," for almost two full minutes before he figured her out. If she's blonded herself all on her own, her manager ought to gently but firmly smack her. If her manager or another handler suggested it, I'll pay ita cash money to deliver that handler an ungentle smackdown.

Oh, shit, topic... having staggered through two-thirds of Van Helsing, I really need to rent or Tivo Cold Comfort Farm. How can the same actress possibly have played a central role in both films?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Man, you Helsing hatahs. On the other hand, the same actress has now done two Underworlds. Cold Comfort Farm and recognisability may be far in her rearview mirror.

Mr. Scola’s wardrobe by Botany 500

JZ, you can borrow my copy of CCF if you want. She's hardly recognizable as the same person.
