Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Destry Rides Again
This is one of many reasons why you are insanely cool.
I would argue that it's Jimmy and Deitrich that are insanely cool. Really, I'm not a huge fan of cat fights, but that movie has the. best. ever.
I think I just like Stewart westerns. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is also made of awesome. So much lost innocence.
Yeah, she's the ultimate in world weary Euro-disdain. I was very pleased and surprised to find that actress again in Eyes Without A Face.
She was pretty much the best thing not chewing the scenery (aka Charles Laughton) in Hitchcock's THE PARADINE CASE, but that's faint praise. Also, she's in the two "Three Mothers" movies Argento has made so far (SUSPIRIA & INFERNO). Sadly, though I heard he's finally making the third (and given his recent output, I'm a bit leary of that), she won't be in it. RIP Valli.
Must. See.
I've heard that Stewart did movies like Liberty Valance after WWII and being disillusioned with American Rah Rah stuff. I find that very interesting with him being an icon and all. When did he do Harvey?
I’ve seen 52 movies on the new AFI list. Of the ones I haven’t, there are a dozen or so I really want to see, and a bunch I wouldn’t exactly seek out, but wouldn’t refuse to watch. And then there are these:
- The Godfather
- Raging Bull
- Schindler's List
- The Godfather Part II
- The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
- Rocky
- Saving Private Ryan
- Titanic
- Platoon
I love EWS, and the idea that it was in a rough state is utterly ludicrous,Me too! Yay. And I think I remember that we both hated Raising Arizona. We're kindred spirits!
Harvey was 20 years before Cheyenne Social Club.
I've seen all of those except for Schindlers List (in its entirety) and the only one that makes me feel really sad for your loss is Fellowship of the Ring.
I have never made it all the way through Schindler's List. I don't do movies where people are awful to each other. I've seen the first tape. Won't do the second.
