What movies are people looking forward to being released this year?
Stardust is my next-must see. I can't wait for it.
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

I'm very excited for Hairspray the Musical the Second Movie or whatever (is there anybody out there that's surprised?). Amanda Bynes is actually the casting I'm most excited about, because I adore her and think she will be hilarious in that role. Yes, she's very pretty, but she can do awkward well, which is what Penny is all about.
I don't know how I feel about Zac Efron. He's awful in High School Musical. But then, I'm not sure if he could possibly be good in that, so I don't actually know. We'll see.
Stardust! HP! Yay!
Now. Who's seen Xanadu? Because I haven't, but I'm going to see the mocking Broadway version soon!
I've not only seen it, I own the soundtrack.
I think that was one of the first albums I ever owned. That and Synchronicity.
What, I can't have layers?
I am brenda! Sweet!

I figure if I can like songs by ELO AND the Dead Kennedys that judging other people's taste is not something I should be trying to do, within reason.
Whitney Houston and her fans, though? They get the HOSTEL treatment, stat! (I figured that for Celine Dion fans that was too easy a sentence - they get the Italian cannibal movie treatment).
I got into a discussion with Jasmine (a friend at work) over how pretty the actress who first played Penny really was. Jasmine insists that she was a quite pretty girl who played awkward well and since we could not find any good pics of the original Penny on line I had to concede (since Jasmine saw the original Hairspray much more recently than I did). So now I'm back to being slightly annoyed at Edna's casting while still glad that a scientologist is wearing drag.
This is even worse: Tony Scott's LA-set revamp of that quintessential New York movie, The Warriors.
The Brits remade it a few years ago as The Purifiers, starring a certain former hobbit-turned-island-refugee. It's been shown on Encore Action channel a lot lately.
Oh, I saw that. It reminded me of The Warriors but I didn't know it was a remake.
Well, right now Penny is being played by Alexa Vega, who is very pretty but needs to eat a sandwich or seven, STAT. I was astonished that she could get up there and sing/dance like that 8 times a week since her caloric intake is clearly about half what it needs to be. I was impressed by her performance, though.
The original Broadway Cast Penny was Kerry Butler, who, coincidentally, is playing Kira in the Xanadu musical I mentioned earlier. Apparently, she's awesome. And definitely a very pretty girl.
