I just liked the original so much... But I'd probably see it, if I could stop comparing.
Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
From what I've heard John Travolta is great as Edna. I'm sure he was cast to get butts in the seats and I think it's kinda cute that a scientologist is wearing drag. The chick playing Tracy beat out Winokur on the grounds that she seems to embody the spirit of Tracy herself. I'll post a link to the great article I read if I can find it again. I am opposed to the casting of Amanda Bynes because I think she's too pretty to play Penny but the studio treated us to twenty minutes of clips from the movie at a preview event this spring and I was totally hooked.
And there's a biopic coming called La Vie en Rose which looked astounding -- if nothing else, worth it for the music.
And why isn't Marissa Winokur playing Tracy? I mean, if she chose not to, fine - her choice. But if it was a studio thing, I'm gonna be irritated.
At 34, she can probably still play a teenager on stage; nsm in a movie. Blonsky is 18.
Anyone else here see "The Long Way Round"? Ewan McGregor and his actor friend Charley...something take motorbikes around the world. Mom kind of rolled her eyes at me for being fangirly at first, but she got interested in it...there are, like, no roads in Mongolia.
This isn't the same article but it's another good one about Nikki Blonsky
I heard a review of La Vie En Rose this morning that basically said the story was only OK, but the actress was the reason to see it. He said the same thing about Nancy Drew, surprisingly enough!

This was on Bravo a year or so ago--it was really fun to watch!
I'll delurk for Ewan. I loved "The Long Way Round". The countries they travelled through were fascinating, and their bonding and friendship was really neat too.
Apparently they are gearing up to do "The Long Way Down" next, riding down through Africa, IIRC.
I thought so, too, Abby. And like I said, it overcame my mother's eyerolling and she got into it too. The Long Way Down sounds dirty. Not that that's a bad thing.ETA: I had Bravo last year...how'd I miss that?Too many channels.
