I'm watching Saw now. It's not as horrific as I'd expected. (At least, not yet.) It isn't merely torture and gore; it's a dark psychological thriller. With torture and gore. Not really my thing; I'm kinda watching from the hall.
Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
I saw Waitress today. Cute, and it made me hungry for pie! So, I treated myself to a strawberry-rhubarb mini pie from Wild Oats.
Oh, I almost forgot! I saw a trailer for Death at a Funeral and it looks like fun!
I hope Waitress is still at our theatre this weekend, because Saturday is going to be the first time we will have had the chance to see it. We still haven't seen POTC3 yet, but I assume it will be in theatres a little longer.
Saw Ocean's 13 today.
I went with my perky, always up for a laugh, buddy. We both laughed outloud and I didn't think about it too much. In the end, I really enjoyed myself.
Saw the Stardust preview...pretty!
Huh. I slowly came back into the room, realized after a few minutes that Saw was not bothering me after all, and by thirty minutes from the end I was kinda bored. ... Does this say something bad about me?
Nah, it didn't do anything for me either. Maybe if the acting was better.
I saw Once today. It was cute, but I was kind of meh about it. Maybe if I'd liked any of the songs...
ION, yesterday I saw a very lively production of WEST SIDE STORY at the Maine State Music Theater in my home town (mom gets season tickets as a present every year). It made me realize I somehow knew all the music even though I don't think I ever saw the entire movie (and have never seen it on stage). Also didn't realize that Sondheim had done the lyrics.
Now I think I have to see the movie, but it's going to be very hard keeping a straight face watching Benjamin Horne and Dr. Jacoby as Tony and Riff.

I found Saw *really* didn't hold up on rewatch. The psychological bits, sure, but I was very meh about it, and I found it quite disturbing the first time around. (Note: this may have been colored by the fact that I watched it the first time in an empty theater at 1am.)
My mom and I went to see Waitress on Saturday, and we both loved it. The scenes of her life as a victim of abuse really resonated with me in a way I didn't expect, and my mother making parallels between Early and her ex-husband turned it into A Movie About Women Like My Mom, which almost drove me to tears. I thought I would hate the affair aspect (how much did I wish that the doctor was a widower? THIS MUCH), I thought it was more of a symbol of Jenna learning what it's like to be loved, so that she could pass that on to her baby. Also, we went and got pie afterwards. Can't wait for the DVD, and I hope it gets some awards recognition.
Also, though I haven't seen Ocean's 13 yet, I think I figured out a theory as to why some people didn't like Ocean's 12 as much. I think Mom thought I was crazy, but she agreed.
