Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

We saw POTC3 today. I, unsurprisingly, liked it. Yeah, the maelstrom scene went on waaaay too long, and where the heck were the rest of the pirate fleet during the big battle, but on the whole, I liked it a lot.

I don't agree with the end Norrington got, tho'. In my version, he escapes with Elizabeth and her pirates, and eventually ends up as the captain of the Flying Dutchman.

I just saw the movie Druids. Oh. My. God. Definitely the WORST movie I've EVER seen, even with alcohol and loud and clever friends. I can't believe I sat through the whole thing. It was an amazing experience, but not one I'm likely to repeat.

Don't think it's not an attractive idea to this job-free viewer. But the overall price is a tad bit high.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Saw Mr. Brooks last night. Not at all what I was expecting. It doesn't really play out as the killer/detective cat and mouse story it seems to be sold as - and occasionally seems to want to be. In reality, it's all about Costner's character - Demi Moore is good, but they might as well be in separate movies. Somehow all the threads they've woven in here don't ever quite hang together.

Which is not to say it's a bad movie. Costner is much better than I expected, and William Hurt rocks - the interplay between those two is by far the best part of the movie, and leaves you with the most to think about.

(Nothing really spoilery here, just generalities. I'm not really sure of the whitefont protocols in this thread, since I almost never see anything current.)

Michael Cera and Judd Apatow satirize the Lily Tomlin/David O. Russell footage.

Art Crawl!!!

Speed Racer story - includes a picture of the Mach 5.

Art Crawl!!!

Interview with Christopher Eccleston - mostly about The Dark is Rising - includes a picture of him as Rider.

I must say, the thing wrong with the picture is that the hair obscures the ears.
