Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Mr. Scola’s wardrobe by Botany 500

I learned from Wired today that there's Sailor Moon/Anakin Skywalker fic.

Clearly, Wired doesn't understand the motto, "All the news that's fit to print."

Punishingly Intricate

Tonight though, we saw The Notorious Bettie Page, which is the latest from Mary Harron (American Psycho, I Shot Andy Warhol), and is terrific.

Cool! I love the look of it from the trailer. And it's got Jonathan M. Woodward!

"When I look at people that I would like to feel have been a mentor or an inspiring kind of archetype of what I'd love to see my career eventually be mentioned as a footnote for in the same paragraph, it would be, like, Bowie." ~Trent Reznor

I had an idea the other day - after Peter Jackson makes The Hobbit, he should go and re-make the 3 Star Wars prequels as they should have been. Am I a genius, or insane?

A little from column A, a little from column B. I'd still march in your victory parade regardless.

I can't even.

Anyone seen Little Fish? An aussie movie from 2005 with an excellent cast (Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Sam Neill, Martin Henderson). Small, downtrodden strugglers kind of drama. Really well done.

move out and draw fire

Sometimes you are having a blah day, and something like this comes along and restores your faith in humanity: [link]

(I'm putting this in the movie thread as it's ostensibly a tribute to Ray Harryhausen.)

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I doubt Buffistas need much reminding, but Goblet of Fire and Howl's Moving Castle are both out on DVD now. Virgin had the two-CD special edition disc priced the same as the regular editions..

In news of interest only to myself and perhaps amych and Teppy, The Oblongs is also now out on DVD.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Angus Oblong (the creator of The Oblongs) is a friend of my ex-boyfriend. Angus did the artwork for Mike's porn shop food drive.

I should get The Oblongs on DVD for him.

Cool!

Has anybody seen Dave Chappelle's Block Party yet? It's getting ceaselessly great reviews.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.
