Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

On my periodic jaunt to apple.com's trailers, I watched the one for Nancy Drew. Horrors! Shock! Call me a grumpy old timer, but that's not my Nancy! This movie looks to be a Clueless/Mean Girls/Scooby damned Doo mishmash. I liked Mean Girls and loved Clueless. But there's no George, unless you count the sassy hipster who helps her acclimate to the big city. And there's no Bess unless you count the chunky boy who hangs out with her.

There is a Ned, but who cares? Also, what teenaged boy these days has the curse of being named Ned? Still. I wanted my George and my Bess and less country mouse who triumphs. *My* Nancy is hip!

Right now, Disney's home page is showing a 9 minute clip of Ratatouille.

OMG! HI-Larious.

Because books.

There's a George and a Bess according the cast list on imdb, but I agree -- this does not look like the Nancy Drew I knew and loved.

I think it would have been wonderful if they'd made a period piece, with Nancy and Ned and George and Bess in the 1930s or 1940s, but I'm Studio Wisdom (tm) said no one would go see it then.

information libertarian

I know a kid named Ned. He's 5. I think it's coming back, as a name. (I really like it myself, but mr. flea said no so the Dillo is Peter.)

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

I think it would have been wonderful if they'd made a period piece, with Nancy and Ned and George and Bess in the 1930s or 1940s, but I'm Studio Wisdom (tm) said no one would go see it then.

Or if they were going to modernize it, make it satirical a la the Brady Bunch movie-- there's something about Drew and butch George, girly Bess and pencil-necked Ned that is so charmingly stuck in that era.

Not that I didn't fucking love the modern Nancy Drews and the Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys supermysteries, because I DID.

I wonder if Bess or George were in the trailer, but unnamed. Her main companion was a chubby boy.

She looks retro in comparison to the other characters, and that is noted. But *my* Nancy Drew (lord, I sound insane) was worldly and a jetsetter. Remember the spider sapphire in Kenya and all that?

This new one looks very small town, but they are obviously going to let her win.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

It's creepy how much she looks like Julia Roberts in this picture.

That's all I got.

Art Crawl!!!

Isn't she Julia's niece? Why is that creepy?

Hey. New board.

Nancy Drews / Hardy Boys supermysteries!

Yep, that's all I've got.

Art Crawl!!!

I thought that the girl in the hat was probably George.

I don't know -- I'm not a giant Nancy Drew fan so my opinion is suspect. I thought it looked like a fun popcorn type movie.
