It started with the Saw movies for me.
Wrod. One might argue that a movie could actually be *more* suspenseful without showing some of the violence. (But, one might also argue that that would require some movie making talent...)
Dawn ,'Beneath You'
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

It may be a fine hair I'm splitting, but I do allow for the "Well, I was only looking for someone to beat up" being different from "I, a man, want a woman to torture." Which is again different from there being a sexual component.
Okay, now I get what you're saying. And yes, after reading the description of the film, the movie itself seemed to not be about that.
But I am just talking about the billboard, which I saw before I knew of the film's plot outline.
a degree of beauty or sexuality
her corpse draped in a sort of sexual pose
If the billboard is troublesome because she's beautiful and because she's put in a sexual position, I assumed shaggability was an issue. Otherwise, what is a sexual position? It can't just be a pose a man puts a woman in. What does her attractiveness have to do with it?
I was trying to answer a question you asked, and doing a really half-assed job about it, and was very unsatisfied with these answers. Which was why I took a step back and clarified specifically what I was talking about, so please do not get hung up on those specific phrases.

No problem! I'm clear now, then.
We've been trying to find a movie to take a somewhat nervous 17 year old to freak her out and prevent her from sleeping (17 year old and her mother are both on board--we're not really that mean). That flick? Oh, fuck the hell no. Grindhouse was dismissed as being too violent, but not creepy. Currently the winner looks like Dead Silence. And she winces when we say its name.
What I really wish is that Santa Sangre wasn't showing the damned weekend of my black belt test. Because I'd totally liquor her up and take her to that.

Yeah, that would probably do it. Shame about the timing.
I suppose THE HOST is probably too much of a monster (as opposed to creepy) movie to do the job?

????? If she falls asleep, does she DIE?????
What about the Eddie Murphy flick?
What about the Eddie Murphy flick?
Talk about your Pyrrhic victory.
If she falls asleep, does she DIE?????
As long as she thinks that, we're in for a good time.
Shame about the timing.
I'm begging my black belt friend to give me some sort of dispensation, some indication that a midnight movie Friday wouldn't mess me up for intense training Saturday and testing Sunday, and I just can't get anything. It's been twenty fucking years since I saw that movie and I'm terribly curious.
But the belt test kinda wins.

Isn't that the one that gave you nightmares for ages? I remember hearing that made me add it to my too-scarrifying-for-my-blood list along with Audition.
I suppose THE HOST is probably too much of a monster
I've heard awesome things about that flick, so I shall be seeing it, even though I'm not much of a monster-film aficionado. Plus, it's from South Korea, which is where I originally hail from, and Korean film industry hasn't had this type of international success in this particular genre, if I recall.
I've seen a couple of posters. The one with the chick with the bow and arrow looks wicked cool.
Isn't that the one that gave you nightmares for ages?
Not nightmares--luckily my sleep wasn't disturbed. But it ruined a perfectly good and long-desired date and chilled my waking hours whenever it came to mind.
I'm so curious to see if it lives up to that freakout, but I refuse to have it in my own home.
