What about Remains of the Day? I know you didn't like the movie as much as the book, but even so.
The only movie mentioned here that I've seen is The Virgin Suicides, and... it was fine. I did not love it, I did not hate it. I did not feel like I'd wasted my time in seeing it, but I doubt I will ever watch it again. I think if I had to pin it down, I'd say that the movie didn't mean anything to me. However, I suspect that it did mean something to the people who like it. The meaning may be different to every single of them, but it means something.

That's why I read it, Amy, and I enjoyed it well enough. It may have helped that I've read my share of popular thrillers (James Patterson, Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, Dean Koontz) in my time, so I was familiar with the general style.
